Hey there! As an illustrator venturing into the world of website creation, I know how daunting it can seem at first. But trust me, as a newbie to a newbie, with the right WordPress image tools for beginners and a bit of guidance, it’s easier than you think! In this post, I’m sharing the WordPress image tools that have been lifesavers for me in building my website, all by myself!
Especially if you are an artist and a newbie like me, you will definitely…thank me later! 😄
These tools will make your journey smoother.
WordPress: The Perfect Starting Point
First things first—let’s talk about WordPress. It’s a fantastic platform for beginners. Why? Because it’s incredibly user-friendly, versatile, and packed with features that make website building a breeze. With WordPress, you can easily customize your site without needing to know how to code. There are countless themes and plugins to choose from, allowing you to create a site that truly reflects your vision. The basic version of the themes and plugins is free, and trust me, you can do a lot with the free version. And as you get more confident, you could add some CSS (with the help of AI, of course!). The theme I use is Botiga, which is compatible with Woocommerce, so it’ll be easy to add an e-shop.
Image Galleries for WordPress Beginners
One thing that made the process of building the website more demanding was that, again, as a newbie, I was not able to determine which plugins were worth purchasing the pro (and paid) version. So I tried to explore the free versions, and two galleries stand out for being easy to use with great results: Envira Gallery and Photo Gallery by 10Web.
Envira Gallery for WordPress
Envira Gallery Plugin is a user-friendly plugin for creating beautiful and artistic image galleries. It’s really easy for beginners to understand how this works because the interface is intuitive and perfect for showcasing your artwork, photography, or any visual content on your website. With its drag-and-drop builder and responsive design, you can create stunning galleries in minutes. The downside is that some addons, like tags for example, are available only in the paid version. I used Envira for my illustrations portfolio.
Photo Gallery by 10Web for WordPress
Photo Gallery by 10Web Plugin is another excellent plugin for creating and managing image galleries with a clear and strict “e-shop” feeling. It offers a range of customization options and gallery views, making it easy to display your images in an engaging way. It has a “global settings” option that can be very useful if you want to create similar-looking galleries. I used Photo Gallery by 10Web for my printables for kids’ galleries and you can find it on the WordPress plugin directory. The downside is that I couldn’t find a way to add shadows to the images! But I guess this is something that I’ll tackle with my friend, Copilot. I’ll talk about Copilot later.
Replace Media Plugin for WordPress
This was a life-saving plugin. You have uploaded the file, added title, alt text, description, tags, and you are ready to publish the file. And then you realize that this is not the file (or files!!) you needed!! Should you delete the file and start over? 😱 No! Replace Media Plugin lets you replace old media files with new ones without changing the URLs or losing any metadata. It’s a real time-saver and ensures consistency across your site. It’s the best plugin to correct the (many) mistakes that can happen when uploading (many) images! You can find Replace Media Plugin on the WordPress plugin directory. No downsides for Replace Media Plugin!
Organize Your Content with Folders
Managing a large number of images, pages, and posts can get overwhelming pretty quickly. That’s where the Folders plugin by Premio comes in. This plugin allows you to organize your media library, pages, and posts into folders, making it super easy to keep everything tidy. You can easily drag and drop items into directories and change the folder tree view. This organizational tool has been a game-changer for keeping my website streamlined and ensuring I can quickly find what I need without sifting through endless files. It also works well with the other media files plugin I am reffering to in this post, so this is a go-go!
FreeConvert: A Handy Tool for Media Files
One tool I found invaluable is FreeConvert. This handy online tool allows you to convert various media files (images, videos) with ease, to a web-friendly size! Do you have large PSD’s or huge mp4’s? No problem, FreeConvert will take care of them. And as I mentioned, it’s free! It allows you up to 20 conversions, but if you wait a couple of hours, the count resets 😊 Find it here: FreeConvert
My Trusty AI Companion
I couldn’t have done it without the invaluable help of my AI companion, Copilot. I mean it. Copilot has been there every step of the way. I had gazillions of questions, and I got all the answers I needed. Thanks, Co!
